About Dusty
Dusty has been a licensed and practicing lawyer for more than three decades during which time he earned a reputation as a zealous advocate for his clients and a committed conservative. On the bench, Dusty will serve his community with fairness and an unwavering commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law.
Dusty began his legal career as a Briefing Attorney for United States District Judge David O. Belew, Jr. in Fort Worth where he has lived almost his entire life. Dusty then joined his father in private practice, eventually forming The Fillmore Law Firm. Dusty’s brother, Chad, joined The Fillmore Law Firm in 1994, and the two continue to practice law together.
Dusty’s law practice has centered on complex civil trials and appeals in both State and Federal courts. Dusty has achieved the highest peer review rating of “AV Preeminent” from Martindale-Hubbell, and he has been listed as a Texas Monthly “Super Lawyer” since 2003. Federal judges have appointed Dusty to serve on important federal advisory committees, and Dusty was even hired to serve as the personal attorney of one local federal judge.
A Battle-Tested Constitutional Conservative
In courtrooms across and outside of Texas, Dusty has fought against anti-faith, anti-family, and anti-American leftist ideology. Because of Dusty’s strong conservative convictions and legal abilities, he is frequently asked to represent parties in legal actions designed to protect our cherished constitutional rights.
- Dusty was lead counsel in the case against the Carroll Independent School District that put a stop to an aggressive leftist plan to indoctrinate students with such discredited radical ideologies as Critical Race Theory.
- Dusty represented the Tarrant County Republican Party before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in an election integrity case that reversed a judge’s order requiring a mass hand-out of mail-in ballots— a practice linked to voter fraud.
- Dusty served on the legal team that successfully stopped a federal agency from nullifying the right of Texas parents to consent to and direct their children’s medical care. This federal agency had been actively encouraging the provision of “family planning services” to minors without parental consent or notification.
A Zealous Heart for Justice
Dusty was among the first to pioneer nursing home malpractice cases in Texas, holding some of the worst offenders accountable. He developed ground-breaking trial strategies to expose the true depth and breadth of the patient neglect and the severe harm it caused. As a result of his skill and efforts, Dusty obtained record-setting verdicts and judgments for his clients, one verdict being the 7th largest in the United States in 2001.
Family and Faith
Dusty received his education at Baylor University and St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio. During law school, Dusty was admitted to the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi and also served as President of the Christian Legal Society.
Dusty and his wife Susan have been married for more than 37 years. They have four grown and married children, and they are the proud grandparents of three grandchildren.
Dusty’s most important life-commitment is serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Dusty and Susan were Teaching Leaders for Bible Study Fellowship’s Young Adults Class for nine years and remain active members of Bible Study Fellowship to this day. Dusty and Susan are also active members of Christ Chapel Bible Church where they have served in various ministries.
Texans need judges with unwavering commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law. I will be such a judge.
